bio !
Ally is a California based animator who is currently completing her Associates degree at Pasadena City College. Her art journey started without any formal art training until 2022 when she began her time at Pasadena City College. After having only her mother raise her and her two brothers, her art became a space that explores a diverse set of characters and worlds she built as a way of escapism. Many illustrations are a means of retrospection and explore themes like one's flaws, loss, and personal growth which is the driving force in her career. Her debut comic in the making titled Asterprism blends her passion for fantastical worldbuilding and confronting the real struggles of life. She continues to use art to reach out to others and create a space where both fantasy and reality can coexist on a canvas.

artist's statement !
As an illustrator and aspiring animator who uses both digital and traditional media, my goal is to express myself and bring people together through inspiring visuals. My style consists of a mix of saturated colors and bold lines to create striking visuals that often contradict the subject matter. Symbolism is often found in pieces to subtly hint at what I really want to say like in my zine You and my children’s book Mama Bear. I often embrace the messy side of art to connect with my audience because it’s important that my art is a reflection of my life. Ever since I began my art journey, I struggled with creating art that was “neat” or up to standards I held myself to in comparison to others. To combat the pressure of having perfect pieces, I’ve decided to lean into the messiness of art and become bolder with it, that’s the magic of art! Through the creation of fantastical worlds and magical girls, I am no longer afraid of being messy and unpredictable. I continue to challenge myself to push my boundaries and be comfortable with displaying the uncomfortable under layers of gouache, ink, and digital art.Mama Bear, on the surface, is a cute story about a mother bear helping her cubs through trials they face but underneath is a book about the struggles I’ve observed in my family. It’s about the burdens we all carry and how no matter where we are in life, going back to Mama is almost instinctual. I used a more playful artstyle and a spinning wheel pop-up to show this but the message is still just as powerful. You is a zine where I wrapped me and my best friend in bright sparkles and saturated colors to turn us into magical girls! No friendship is perfect, there are ups and downs that can lead to transformations that make us stronger each and every day. Bright saturated colors, symbolism, and symmetry were just a few of the things utilized to bring my story to life. I have other projects that talk about subjects that are important to me like mental health and diversity in interpersonal relationships of all kinds. My piece Underwatered explores this theme with gouache and watercolor as I explore the loss of friendships and how it's affected me even years after it happened. We experience loss and hurt in all sorts of ways that can be visualized through art.I hope to bring people together and focus on the collaborative side of art and animation over the commercial side of it. Art is where we can all be the most free so I believe we should bring everything to the canvas and explore together.
